Cameron barely got any sleep that night due to chronic tossing and turning. How could she rest peacefully knowing her husband was possibly starting a family with another woman? And Cam used the word ‘possibly’ loosely. As miniscule as it was, she still held onto a tiny shred of hope.

Maybe the bitch is not even pregnant. Maybe she was just trying to get under my skin, Cam convinced herself.

It was 11:25 a.m. when she finally dragged herself out the bed and showered. Because she didn’t have a flat iron, her hair was dry and a mess. Using a bristle brush and rubber band, Cam tried her best to make a perfect high top bun. Loose tendrils hung around her perimeter, making the style look somewhat decent. She didn’t have a lick of makeup in her bag, so she was forced to don the plain-face. Aside from light bags underneath her eyes, she was beautiful.

After dressing for the day, Cam caught the elevator to the hotel’s restaurant. The moment she took a seat at the bar, she instantly became home sick. Every morning, she and Justin ate together like a family—now she was alone.

How could Jude be so petty as to not let me have my son?

Cameron was so over him that it wasn’t even funny. Just the sight of her wedding ring made her sick, reminding her of his infidelities. Without remorse, Cam slipped the sparkling rock off her finger and placed it inside her purse.

Instead of ordering breakfast right away, she ordered a drink. Cam desperately needed it to alleviate the weight on her shoulders. After her second Bloody Mary, Cameron pulled out her iPhone.

I have to know for sure, she told herself.

As crazy as it was, Cam had memorized Essence’s number by heart. That was how strong of an impact she’d caused. It was barely noon when Cameron made one of the boldest decisions she’d ever made in life.

Essence’s phone rang four times before she finally answered. “Hello?”

Cam knew she was caught off guard by the unknown number. She didn’t even bother hiding it. What for, Cam asked herself. A real woman didn’t have anything to fear.

There was no trace of hesitation in Cameron’s tone when she said, “I think we need to meet.”

Six Feet Under Pub and Fish House was where Essence had reluctantly agreed to meet Cameron. It was relatively warm that day with a slight breeze so Cam decided to dine on the patio. Since she lived closer to the area than Essence, she made it there first.

As soon as Essence walked out onto the patio, a queasy feeling took over her. She almost regretted the choice to meet with her—almost. Hearing her voice and viewing those photos was one thing, but seeing her in person was a whole other.

Essence was a cute girl, and she certainly looked like Jude’s type; that immediately made Cam despise her even more. Suddenly, she hated the fact that she didn’t look her best at the moment. If Cam had to guess, she’d say that Essence had gone out her way to appear flawless.
